City Government
The City Office is located at 1528 DeWitt Street. Office hours are 8:00 am – 12:00 pm 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Ellsworth’s Mayor is Brett Hodnefield. Ellsworth has 5 councilmen. They are Greg Campbell, Dwaine Zimmerman, Kristine Groth, Marty Jensen and Matt Loomis. The council meets the second Monday of every month at 7:00 pm in the City hall. Ellsworth Development Corporation
The Ellsworth Development Corporation is in charge of economic development in Ellsworth. It consists of volunteer community members. One of their large projects is the Ellsworth Industrial Park. Located on the east side of Ellsworth is consists of four businesses at this time. Those businesses are Best Veterinary Services, Granite City Brewery, Safe Soy, and X-treme Tumbling and Trampoline. Education
Ellsworth is part of the South Hamilton Community School District. Only three miles away is an outstanding K-12 program in two newly updated buildings, with the district enrollment around 800 students. The communities of Ellsworth, Jewell, Stanhope and Randall are all served by the South Hamilton School District.
Students and Faculty have access to over eighty Macintosh and IBM computers, as well as the Internet where South Hamilton has its own web site www.s-hamilton.k12.ia.us/ All 7 thru 12 grade students are provided their own computer. Iowa State University, the Webster city campus of Iowa Central Community College, Des Moines Area Community College (branches in Des Moines, Ankeny, and Boone), Ellsworth Community College, and Drake University (Des Moines) are all within easy commuting distance.

Health Care
Health care is 3 to 25 minutes away. Van Diest Medical Center, in Webster City has a satellite medical office in Jewell. The McFarland Clinic in Ames has two satellite offices in Story City and Webster City. Hospitals are located in Ames and Webster City. The Ellsworth Fire & EMS has an ambulance staffed with EMT’s and first responders. A pharmacy is located just 3 miles away in Jewell. Back to top

Recreation
Ellsworth City Park provides a variety of activities available including tennis and basketball courts. Kids can be involved in T- Ball, Little League and summer library program in Ellsworth.
Three miles away is Little Wall Lake where you can enjoy boating, sailing, skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, swimming, volleyball, ice fishing and ice skating. There is also a 9 hole privately owned golf course, municipal swimming pool hiking and biking trail and youth baseball, softball and soccer programs.

City Park
The Ellsworth City Park has an enclosed shelter house, with kitchen, available to rent year around for family reunions, graduation parties, showers, birthdays and much more. The park also has tennis and basketball court, playground and an open shelter. To rent shelter call 515-836-4751. Back to top

Community Center
The Ellsworth Community Center was built in 1951 as the new gymnasium for the Ellsworth Public School. It is attached to the original Ellsworth High School. The Ellsworth Community Center, which is handicap accessible, provides Bingo every Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. It also is available for walking, has a small meeting room, kitchen, gymnasium, and is available to rent. The Ellsworth Library also houses the Ellsworth Historical Society memorabilia.
The Ellsworth Library started in 1936 after the Women’s Club started a book club and collected books and magazines yearly until it was suggested they start a library. They were in charge of the library until they asked the town to take over in 1941 and it became the Ellsworth Public Library

Ellsworth Fire & EMS

Ellsworth is very fortunate to be able to provide excellent services for the protection and safety of its residents. Fire services were originally started in 1815 with a cistern system and a fire brigade. Throughout the years, the service has kept abreast of advances in fire protection by regularly updating equipment as well as ensuring that staff is thoroughly trained in advanced emergency care.
There are currently 32 members of the Ellsworth Fire & EMS.
The Fire Department co-hosts, with the Ellsworth Community Association, the annual Halloween party for the children of Ellsworth and the Visit with Santa each held at the fire station. Back to top

Police
In 1990, the cities of Ellsworth and Jewell entered in a joint law enforcement agreement. In 1997, the city of Stanhope, also entered into the agreement. The EJS Police Department was then created and has been in existence since that time.
The police department currently has two officers:
Chief Steve Butler has been with the EJS Department since 1996. Prior to becoming Chief of Police, he was employed by the Tama Police Department for 14 years.
Officer Mike Pruismann, joined the department in 2009
Both Chief Butler and Officer Pruismann are certified EMT-B’s.
The department offers the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program to the South Hamilton Community school and the department also actively participates in SALT (Senior’s and Law Enforcement Together) as part of a community policing program.
